Anyways, I decided that I needed to get back into the blogging world, so here I am. Since my last blog, everyone important ever died. Well, not exactly, but it's been a little crazy.
First it was Ed McMahon
...then Farrah Fawcett
...then Michael Jackson
Now, while I don't have strong ties to any of these important people, I figured I'd jot down my thoughts.
My mom had the most awesome Farrah Fawcett hair.
I don't get to see the pictures very often, but when I do, I can't help but think "where the hell did those genes go?" I mean, seriously. Look at that hair! What the hell mom?!?! Do you even love me?
We have all seen Farrah's famous poster ... which my stepdad apparently owned. She was so gorgeous. I love how she looks like the girl-next-door in this picture despite her obvious nipplage (yes, it's a word). It's truly a skill to look sexy and innocent at the same time.
I totally watched Charlie's Angels on Nick at Nite when I was little. I so wanted to be one of the Angels and I still think I would be good at that job. Now this may seem like a normal girl's dream, but I was such a tomboy that wanting to be a sexy, dolled-up bombshell was a big step for me.
As for Michael Jackson... I remember watching Thriller at my day care. Yeah, my mom worked there. They were "educating" us.
I've always been entranced by his dancing. He had so much grace and fluidity that performing a complex dance looked easier than blinking. He changed the music industry forever and inspired so many people to create.
I think it's so sad that he had such a messed up childhood (by all accounts) and that he spent his adulthood searching for some way to regain it. It's too bad he couldn't go on his last tour. I think that a lot of the people for my generation and later only got to see the drama and the disturbed and troubled man, instead of the artist.
I think my all-time favorite Michael Jackson video is Smooth Criminal. It reminds me of how my mom always called me "Slick" when I tried to get away with things. The choreography and skill in this video is amazing. Enjoy.

ReplyDeletethe first time i saw a michael jackson video was thriller in iran, the first time i went when i was 5. i'm pretty sure i saw "leave me alone" the next time i went to iran when i was in high school. iran <3s michael.
i definitely agree with you on how unfortunate his childhood was! it's too bad people waited until he died to really praise him and respect him again. that's how it usually goes with celebrities, though.
Dude, your mom is a babe!
ReplyDeletePoor MJ-it's obvi not okay to behave in the manner in which he did (at times), but I can definitely understand his decisions. He needed help, not criticism.
Billie Jean is my all time favorite song, fyi!
yeah, i'm the one on two-week vacay...boo-yay!!!..and I have a hard time believing that you are "working hard"....love the farrah hair pic. Maybe we should do the thriller routine in ecj when i get back..ha!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies. I sent the link to my mom and she has been threatening me with cans of whoop ass ever since. She even texted me "you can run but you can't hide."
ReplyDeleteShe's crazy.
These individuals have contributed to the formation of late 20th century american culture, and they're starting to drop so unepectadly. I would hope that none of us is held to the same scrutiny befalling many of these public figures. I think we should be remembered for our greatest achievements and contributions, as should these late icons.
ReplyDeletegood post!
